The Ladle Metallurgical Station (LMS)

All heats of steel produced at CMC Steel Texas are processed at the Ladle Metallurgical Station (LMS) to ensure that steel chemistry meets the applicable standards, as well as specific chemistries required by customers.

Alloy additions are handled by both wire feeding and in bulk, while steel homogenization is achieved through the use of an electro-magnetic stirring coil and porous plug inert gas stirring.

The 20 MVA transformer powering the 14" electrodes of the LMS ensures that every heat of steel reaches the continuous caster at the required casting temperature.

CMC World News
Getting Greener

CMC is at the forefront of environmentally-friendly steelmaking procedures. We are committed to using the latest technology to minimize our environmental footprint.

  • Dust, once the most voluminous by-product in the steelmaking process, has been virtually eliminated by baghouse air filtering technology.
  • Iron and other metals filtered in baghouses are recycled.
  • Water used in our steelmaking process is completely recycled, cleaned and used for landscaping our facilities.
