History
CMC Structural consists of four structural steel fabrication operations, a cellular and castellated beam manufacturing facility, and a structural engineering firm that operate as a single entity. Although CMC has been in the structural fabrication business since 1952, the standalone structural fabrication operations were brought together in 2010 to form CMC Structural.
1952 CMC Alamo Steel – Victoria, TX
Founded in 1952, Safety Steel was CMC’s first affiliated structural fabrication operation. In 2008 Safety Steel became Alamo Steel Victoria.
1987 CMC Alamo Steel – Waco, TX
Alamo Steel has operated continuously since 1946 serving the Southwest markets with fabricated structural steel as well as steel warehousing services. In 1987 Alamo Steel joined the CMC Steel group.
1994 CMC South Carolina Steel – Taylors, SC
South Carolina Steel began operating in 1952 and became part of Commercial Metals Company with the acquisition of Owen Steel in 1994. CMC South Carolina Steel began using the design-build project delivery method in the 1960’s to bring more value to our customers by using our knowledge of production methods and costs to develop more economical and constructible designs.
1998 CMC Steel Products – Hope, Ar
CMC Steel Products was a greenfield operation started by CMC in 1997 to compliment the joist and deck business with an economical composite floor system. CMC Steel Products is the exclusive manufacturer of the SMARTBEAM® in the Americas.

2000 CMC Cary Engineering – Greenville, SC
CMC Cary Engineering was founded in 1983 and acquired by Commercial Metals Company in 2000. CMC Cary Engineering provides both building structure and connection design engineering services for our four structural steel fabrication plants, other CMC companies, and for a limited number of Architects and owners.

2004 CMC Kilroy Steel
Kilroy Steel has been fabricating and erecting structural steel since 1918. Founded by the Kilroy family, Kilroy Steel grew from a small local family-operated business to a mid-sized regional steel fabricator and erector, servicing the Midwestern states. CMC acquired Kilroy Steel in 2004 to expand their structural fabrication footprint to the Midwest.
2010 CMC Structural
The CMC structural fabrication plants were combined to form CMC Structural to gain operational efficiencies and better serve their common customer base. This union aligned sales and operations best practices within the group and provides our customers streamlined national service no matter where the products are fabricated.
