Position Overview

This position will be a hands-on team member and will have primary responsibility for tax planning, US federal and state income tax compliance, and will lead CMC’s interface with taxing authorities as it relates to federal and state audits. This position will also have primary responsibility to monitor federal and state legislative changes that may affect the company’s tax positions and filing requirements. In addition, this position will assist with the preparation and review of the quarterly and year-end tax provision.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Develop tax planning strategies to minimize federal and state income tax liabilities for current operations as well as acquisitions and divestitures.
• Lead and manage the preparation and review processes for federal and state income and franchise tax returns including coordinating, gathering and analyzing supporting data, as well as maintaining audit ready files. This also includes estimated payments, cash tax forecasts, extensions, etc.
• Monitor, analyze and interpret federal and state tax legislative and administrative changes as well as related accounting issues to ensure proper compliance for reporting and remittance of federal and state income tax as well as accounting and reporting.
• Act as primary representative for CMC for all interactions with US taxing authorities.
• Assist with the preparation of the U.S. and state income tax provision for quarterly and year-end SEC financial statements and disclosures to assure that tax positions are correctly reflected.
• Special projects – including process development, providing consulting to business units and addressing various tax technical issues.

 

Experience and Skill Requirements

• Minimum 15 years of experience preparing/reviewing complex tax provisions with a strong understanding of Tax and GAAP principles.
• History of developing and implementing tax planning strategies to minimize federal and state income tax liabilities for current operations as well as acquisitions and divestitures.
• Minimum 15 years federal and state compliance experience in a consolidated group public corporation or Big 4 accounting firm including fixed assets, 263A, research tax credit, FTC and GILTI.
• Experience managing Federal and State audit process.
• Minimum 5 years proven leadership and management experience; strong motivator with solid interpersonal skills; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• OneSource software experience preferred
• Comfortable with tax research tools
• Strong proficiency in MS Office Applications, particularly in Excel
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Tax required; Master's degree preferred
• CPA or J.D. is required
