Shear Operator (5001)

Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking a mobile shear operator to support CMC Recycling in Odessa, Texas. As part of the CMC team, the shear operator will support general yard operations by completing tasks required to track and process rolled steel for straightening and shearing to length and to maintain work area and equipment in a safe, clean and efficient manner.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Must comply with safety procedures and regulations at all times
  • Requires operation of production machines in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Communicate and coordinate with crew members to sustain a quality finished product that meets or exceeds customer expectations
  • Maintain a clear work area and equipment
  • Be a positive, enthusiastic and passionate team member and representative
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Other duties as assigned in general support of the organization


Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the industrial field
  • Good math, verbal, mechanical and analytical skills
  • Knowledge and compliance with all safety and lockout-tag out
  • Ability to effectively read a tape measure
  • Experience operating heavy machinery
Education Requirements
  • High School degree or GED
