Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking machinist to support the Maintenance Department. They will be responsible for operating and maintaining machine shop equipment to include lathes, milling machines, drill presses, key seating machines, surface grinders and CNC machines to provide dependable support to plant operations in an accurate and efficient manner while observing CMC Safety Policies and Procedures.

REPORTS TO: Roll Shop Routine Facilitator
LOCATION: Sayreville NJ

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Set-up machinery for operation to include tooling.
• Able to operate shop machinery in the shop (Manual Lathe, Milling Machine, Drill Press, Key Seater, surface grinder, CNC machines).
• Must understand materials, cutting tools, tool speed and material feed rates, coolant requirements and machining techniques.
• Verifies dimensions of parts for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges and micrometers.
• Uses shop math to include basic trigonometry.
• High degree of mechanical aptitude, accuracy and precision.
• Machines parts from prints and can make parts from samples.
• Re-machine parts to repair them and still maintain critical dimensions. 4 Jaw Chuck knowledge needed.
• Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
• Responsible for personal safety and those around him/her. Maintains excellent housekeeping standards.
• Working knowledge of Maintenance management computer systems and other related internal control systems (SAP) preferred.
• Operate remote controlled overhead crane as needed.
• Perform equipment inspections.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Experience and Skill Requirements

• 5 years of machinist experience required
• Ability to utilize precision measurement instruments
• Ability to read and understand blueprints
• Basic computer skills preferred

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Machinist certificate or equivalent experience.
