Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an Garage Mechanic Intern to join the CMC Steel Texas Maintenance Department team to provide critical support to day to day plant operations. Steel Texas is one of CMC’s eleven steel mills that have a combined annual capacity of almost eight million tons. By producing steel from recycled metal in electric arc furnaces, we consume far fewer natural resources than blast furnace steelmakers. Using recycled metal allows us to lower CO2 emissions by 58%. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Learn to troubleshoot malfunctions on various equipment and perform repairs.
• Learn to perform preventive maintenance on engines, hydraulic systems, on and off road mobile equipment, and stationary equipment.
• Learn to use company computer to issue parts and update comments on work orders/tasks.
• Properly dispose of empty contaminated debris containers, aerosol cans, and plastic bottles for recycling.
• Assist with general clean up to maintain a clean work area which could include using the pressure washer, as needed.
• Assist in receiving parts and audits performed in the parts room.
• Assist with preparing equipment for painting in the paint room.
• Shows a safety-first mind set; recommends improvements to make the workplace safer
• Has organizational skills and is detail oriented.
• Proves dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.

Experience and Skill Requirements

• Students must be working towards/enrolled in technical trade/school or college.
• Experience is welcomed and/or vocational school, but willing to train the right candidate.
• Must keep work area clean and safe.
• Must be able to perform minor repairs and routine tasks efficiently, correctly, and safely.
• Must comply with all plant specific rules, procedures and duties.
• Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 25 lbs., and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Push and pull up to 90 lbs.
• Ability to work with exposure to inside and outside temperatures, loud noise, heights, and confined spaces.
• Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 12 hours, frequent walking or climbing stairs.
• Must be able to work in all-weather conditions
• Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity which includes balancing, pulling, stooping, and reaching.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
