Melt Shop Shift Supervisor (5291)

Position Overview

The individual supervises a crew of employees within the melting and casting operations in accordance with all company policies and standards with an emphasis on safety. The individual will ensure that all process and equipment are functional and will collaborate with maintenance personnel for problem analysis and resolution. The individual will act as a subject matter expert to operations personnel and work to improve efficiency and utilization. The individual is expected to participate in melting process and provide input as requested. The individual will supervise and be responsible for a crew which will assist in completion of the above mentioned tasks.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

-ensure personnel are wearing proper PPE and following safety procedures
-work with  to ensure all steel is manufactured to CMC specifications and safely in a timely manner.
-visually inspect furnace for problems (water leaks, refractory wear, etc)
-To ensure slag foaming is appropriate.
-adjust flux additions based on slag analysis to optimize slag chemistry
-work with personnel in the operation, monitoring, and performance of all melting equipment (furnace, cranes, ladle furnace, etc.)
-ensure housekeeping is performed
-attend meetings when required
-communicate with fellow workers and supervisors about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
-trouble shoots work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others (pulpit operator, process manager, maintenance personnel, etc.)
-assist others when needed or requested (ladle furnace operator, crane operator, etc.)
-suggests improvements in work methods/procedures by verbally communicating ideas with supervisors or others
-Responsible for controlling and replenishing the inventory of consumables needed on the operations floor.
-understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures for the EAF and Caster
-assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed
-fill in or assist supervisor in the performing of duties when requested and needed
-ensure forklift and crane reports are filled out each shift
-periodically attend training on days scheduled off

-track vacation requests and time card punches via KRONOS

-monitor daily staffing needs and communicate with other employees to fill in vacancies to maintain operations
