Position Overview

Are you ready to expand your Safety career with a growth-oriented Fortune 500 Company? We are currently seeking an Area Safety Coordinator (ASC) to join our team and provide exceptional support to our South Central Texas Region - Austin, Round Rock and Waco. Leveraging their Safety knowledge and with limited supervision, the Area Safety Coordinator monitors the safety performance of assigned locations, including tracking of injuries, injury prevention, hazard identification, hazard control and correction, and compliance with OSHA and CMC safety standards.  The ASC is also responsible for ensuring a proper safety orientation, annual training requirements and all required documentation are maintained for their sites.

In this role, it is critical to build strong relationships and be approachable by all levels of employees, line and senior management.  Influencing in a positive manner and being able to juggle many things at once are key attributes of a successful safety professional at CMC.

Travel up to 80 percent of the time will be needed to visit various locations supported, most of which will be local. Spanish is strongly desired as many of our employees are Spanish-speaking.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assists and supports CMC Americas Safety with regards to development, implementation, follow up, analysis, etc. of all CMC Americas Safety policies, procedures, requirements and initiatives as directed.
  • Assist, support and or advise facility Management in all aspects of compliance with CMC Americas policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Be able to assess and prioritize the needs of each facility. The needs of each facility will indicate the level of personal involvement needed to complete all required safety functions.
  • Assists facility management in development of corrective actions for identified hazards, to include but not limited to implementation, tracking and follow up.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, support and or advise facility all required employee training including but not limited to, New Employee Orientation, annual required re-training, forklift, material handler, overhead crane, site specific equipment safeguards in accordance to CMC Americas Safety policy and OSHA regulation guidelines. Ensure proper documentation of training and identify upcoming needs in training.
  • Assist, support and or advise facility Management with respect to proper reporting of incidents to include but not limited to near misses, property damage, first aid, and OSHA recordable injuries.
  • Assist, support and or advise facility with respect to obtaining detailed descriptions of incidents, thorough corrective action steps to prevent future injuries and follow up to ensure appropriate corrective actions have been implemented and are in place and are working.
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Organized / detail and action oriented 
  • Strong skills in the application of incident prevention techniques, safety committee instructor, workers compensation, which effectively address hazards associated with physical, behavioral and administrative contributors to preventing workplace injuries and illnesses
  • Communication skills both written and verbally – especially when developing programs, PowerPoint, safety training and the ability for the safety message to be conveyed to the employees 
  • Comfortable delivering presentations to groups
  • Ability to build relationships Interpersonal/human relations skills

Education Requirements
  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelors in manufacturing or industrial/environmental safety preferred.
