Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an Industrial Buyer to procure ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal in an economical and efficient manner. The position is responsible to establish and maintain effective relations with supply sources within the local area. Additionally, the incumbent coordinates activities with other procurement, logistics, plant management, and accounting personnel.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Investigates new potential sources of consumers of scrap metal. Buys from a retail, dealer, light industrial customers, repair shops, demolition projects, clean-ups, etc.
  • Purchase scrap metal materials in accordance with current market conditions based on established pricing standards/models e
  • Visits customers on a regular basis and maintain systemic data to record account history.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations in order to purchase materials in compliance.
  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service skills to ensure repeat business.
  • Provide solutions to improve and maximize scrap recovery.
  • Maximizes opportunities to increase market share
  • Maintain accurate records of all buying/sourcing and prospecting activities including closed sales and follow-up activities within their assigned territory.
  • Responsible for maintaining current pricing and market data for current and potential customers.
  • Travels within 60-90 miles radius 50% of the time.
Experience and Skill Requirements

Required

  • 3-5 years of experience in Industrial Sales or procurement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Sense of teamwork as well as an independent initiative.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrates buying/selling skills & product knowledge.
  • Strong oral & written communication skills.
  • Understand and use proprietary pricing software.

Preferred

  • Industrial Ferrous/Non-Ferrous buying experience.
  • Contract negotiation experience.
Education Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field required. 8 years of related experience may be substituted (in addition to 3-5 years noted above) in lieu of degree.
