Crane Operator (5331)

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Crane Operator to join our CMC Houston Recycling Operations in Houston, Texas. As part of the CMC team, the Crane Operator will operate the assigned crane in a safe and efficient manner. This position's working conditions include working in an uncontrolled climate with exposure to heat and cold. The Crane Operator will also provide dependable support to plant operations.

This position works an eight (8) hour shift Monday thru Friday; which may include some overtime to include at least four (4) hours on Saturday. If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your career, this is the job for you!

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Transports / processes scrap material utilizing crane and or mobile shear.
  • Sorts material utilizing crane and or mobile shear by grade, size, and per customer specs.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with scrap material utilizing magnet and/or grapple attachment.
  • Inspects all mobile equipment such as cranes and forklifts daily before use.
  • Assists with minor repairs of equipment, and washes equipment.
  • Performs constant repetitive finger movement to include twisting and or pressure involving the wrists/hands.
  • Must be able to frequently lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Utilizes rails and steps to frequently climb in and out of the crane cab.
  • Submits requests to provide preventative maintenance of all mobile equipment such as cranes and forklifts as required.
  • Complies with safety procedures and regulations at all times.
  • Ensures all jobs are completed in a proficient and safe manner.
  • Shows a safety first mindset; recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.
  • Willing to learn; enjoys tackling new challenges.
  • Is organized and shows attention to detail, with a "get it right the first time" mindset.
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.

  • Ability to sit/stand for duration of shift, up to eight (8) hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • 1 or more years of experience operating hydraulic cranes (not cable cranes or overhead cranes).
  • 1 or more years of experience in either recycling or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to change priorities quickly, work effectively under time constraints and contribute to the team.
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and work with or without supervision.
  • Must have excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Must have organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must speak and understand English language in verbal communication.
  • Must be able to work an eight (8) hour shift Monday thru Friday; which may include some overtime to include at least four (4) hours on Saturday.
  • Ability to work in extremes in weather temperatures to include working in non-temperature controlled environments.
  • Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 8 hours; frequent physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs or reaching to work with equipment throughout the entire shift.
Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED preferred.
