Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an Equipment Operator to support CMC Recycling in Shreveport, Louisiana. As part of the CMC team, the operator oversees the process of separating various scrap materials using heavy machines. This is an hourly position with a Monday-Friday 7:30AM – 4:30PM work schedule. Saturdays and overtime can be expected to accommodate business needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensure ferrous or non-ferrous products are up to quality specifications for both internal and external customers.
• Operate various mobile equipment (Forklift, Crane, Front-end Loader, etc.).
• Shows a safety first mindset; recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.
• Willing to learn; enjoys tackling new challenges.
• Is organized and shows attention to detail, with a "get it right the first time" mindset.
• Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.
• Works well with team members or independently; gives and receives feedback in a constructive manner.
• Makes timely and sound decisions; uses resources wisely.
• Displays a positive, can-do attitude; maintains composure when faced with difficult situations.
• Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 8 hours; frequent physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs or reaching to work with equipment throughout the entire shift.
• Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 -50 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 50 to 75 lbs.
• Ability to work with exposure to extremes in weather temperatures, chemicals, dust, mist, uneven surfaces, loud noises and elevated work areas.
• Ability to work around mechanical or electrical equipment.

Experience and Skill Requirements

• One (1) year of field experience in either an operations and or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to recall scrap commodities and operating procedures.
• Ability to document and maintain procedures and record keeping for equipment.
• Basic computer skills such as familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word) required. SAP experience a plus.
• Must speak and understand English language in verbal communication.
• Forklift, Crane, or experience operating heavy machinery preferred.
• Must be able to work an 8 hour shift Monday thru Friday; which may include some overtime to include eight (8) hours on Saturday.
• Ability to work in extremes in weather temperatures.
• Ability to use effective listening skills to identify important information and to engage internal and external customers.
• Ability to perform heavy manual work.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
