Shear Operator (5657)

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Shear Operator to join CMC Beaumont Recycling Operations. The Shear Operator will support general yard operations by completing tasks required to track and process rolled steel for straightening and shearing to length and to maintain work area and equipment in a safe, clean and efficient manner. Successful candidates will have a strong safety mindset and a desire to learn.

This position works an 8 hour shift Monday through Friday; which may include some overtime to include four (4) hours on Saturday. If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your career, this is the job for you!

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Operates production machines in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
• Possess knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the industrial field.
• Communicates and coordinates with crew members to sustain a quality finished product that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
• Recommends equipment, systems and processes ideas that support continuous improvements regarding safety, bar quality, equipment preservation, reduced non-value added production time, conversion cost reductions, personnel development or in any other way that makes improvement.
• Maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows safety regulations.
• Ensures all jobs are completed in a proficient and safe manner.
• Shows a safety first mindset; recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.
• Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture at work.
• Willing to learn; enjoys tackling new challenges.
• Organized and shows attention to detail, with a "get it right the first time" mindset.
• Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.

Experience and Skill Requirements

• Minimum 1 year mechanical background to be familiar with production areas and the associated equipment.
• Minimum 1 year experience driving a forklift.
• Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 8 hours; frequent physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs or reaching to work with equipment throughout the entire shift.
• Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 25 to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in non-temperature controlled environments.
• Must speak and understand English language in verbal communication.
• Ability to work in extremes in weather temperatures.
• Ability to use effective listening skills to identify important information and to engage internal and external customers.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
