Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an industrial maintenance technician to support CMC Recycling Odessa, Texas. As part of the CMC team, the maintenance technician will monitor and provide technical/maintenance support for the plant mechanical and electrical equipment at our recycling plant. The maintenance technician is required to troubleshoot, repair, service, and complete preventative maintenance on various types of heavy equipment both in a shop and outside environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Must comply with CMC safety procedures and regulations at all times
  • Repair and maintenance of heavy equipment to include from wheeled/tracked excavators, forklifts, loaders and attachments.
  • Repair and troubleshoot Class VI trucks and trailers. Repair electrical, air, fuel, and brakes on all trucks and trailers used for moving material from other locations to yard.
  • Perform proper level of echelon inspections, perform oil changes, repairs, electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting. Performing all functions while observing all applicable CMC Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with a strong work ethic, pay attention to detail and find root causes for failures.
  • Able to communicate with equipment vendors to assist with diagnosing issues.
  • Constantly perform a wide range of physical activities which include pulling, reaching, bending over, climbing, and kneeling
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Other duties as assigned to support business operations
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • At least two years of heavy equipment experience
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatic systems on various types of equipment. (Material handlers, loaders, excavators, forklifts).
  • Complete all paperwork for repairs and identify all parts needed to conduct current and future repairs.
  • Experienced with industrial mechanical repairs and knowledgeable about hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Safety oriented person with leadership skills to perform maintenance duties in a team environment and ability to work alone with little or no supervision
  • Must be able to communicate technically, orally and written.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, layout projects, locate prints and use maintenance technical manuals.
  • Must be able to use a computer
  • Welding knowledge a plus but not a requirement
  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and business leaders
  • Great organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to deal with uncertainty and work with or without supervision
  • Ability to be productive by working efficiently and effectively with high energy level.
  • Must have valid drivers' license.
