Equipment Operator (5877)

Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an equipment operator to support CMC Recycling Odessa. As part of the CMC team, the operator oversees the process of separating, moving, loading and unloading various scrap materials using mobile machines.

This is an hourly full time position, Monday-Saturday. Overtime can be expected to accommodate business needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
  • Prepares equipment by conducting operator inspections; performing preventive maintenance checks
  • Safely loads scrap onto trucks or rail cars as assigned
  • Sorts scrap and transfers to correct material stack
  • Provides housekeeping on yard by consolidating piles of scrap\
  • Accomplishes work by operating equipment; observing varying conditions; adjusting equipment controls
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; calling for repairs.
  • Perform physical activities including: pulling, reaching, bending over, climbing, and kneeling
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time
  • Uncontrolled climate environment with exposure to heat, cold, rain, and wind
  • Other duties as assigned
Experience and Skill Requirements

REQUIRED

  • Able to execute the essential functions and responsibilities of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and business leaders
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment
  • Great organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Must be a quick learner; willing and able to operate equipment using the magnet or grapple attachments

PREFERRED

  • 1-2 years' experience in recycling environment or manufacturing environment
  • Mobile equipment experience

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
