Position Overview

Are you ready to expand your HR career with a growth-oriented Fortune 1000 Company? We are currently seeking an HR Generalist to join our Seguin, TX based HR team, working at one of CMC's largest steel mills, which provides a challenging, fast-paced environment.  CMC Steel Texas is located in Seguin, Texas, just 24 minutes east of downtown San Antonio. This is an entry point into our organization, but we are looking for someone who wants to grow with us, taking on more responsibilities and larger roles over time.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Employee Relations: Investigates and formulates responses to government, legal or internally reported employee relations charges; work with managers and employees to resolve issues and concerns in a productive manner.

Training: Identify training needs and provide recommended solutions to clients; Responsible for local employee orientations and training to support corporate programs; Responsible for day-to-day transactions and paperwork to process employee changes.

Business partner/advisor: Properly diagnose business unit needs, persuade and influence business unit leaders to adopt the appropriate HR practices, and to communicate and lead the development of business unit solutions within the HR Department, consistent with global HR strategies.

Compensation & Benefits: Participate in compensation planning, survey participation and job evaluation processes; assist with benefits enrollment and questions from employees, assist with issue resolution in partnership with corporate benefits team.

Recruitment: Responsible for local recruiting programs ensuring staffing needs are met in a timely manner. Support recruiting at career fairs and other venues; develop recruitment marketing strategy for all assigned roles including social media and job boards.

Performance Management: Implements performance assessment and employee development planning processes as assigned; coach managers and assist with decision-making and delivery of corrective actions.

Compliance: Oversees implementation of CMC HR programs to comply with various governmental regulations dealing with EEO, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA and other related Federal & State laws. Ensures consistent CMC policy implementation throughout assigned business group(s).

Experience and Skill Requirements
  • 2-3 years of experience as a generalist in human resources preferred.  Preferred experience in at least 2 of the following: recruiting, performance management, employee relations, benefits, training, or compensation
  • Knowledgeable in applicable HR policies, laws, & regulations. General knowledge of EEO, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OSHA, Workers Compensation, DOL and other related Federal & State laws desired.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish a strong plus

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • HR Certification preferred
