Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an Electronic Technician to join the CMC Steel Texas Maintenance Department team to provide critical support to day to day plant operations. Steel Texas is one of CMC’s eleven steel mills that have a combined annual capacity of almost eight million tons. By producing steel from recycled metal in electric arc furnaces, we consume far fewer natural resources than blast furnace steelmakers. Using recycled metal allows us to lower CO2 emissions by 58%. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for performing maintenance throughout the mill.
  • Perform equipment repairs as part of planned maintenance and in response to plant emergencies.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems throughout the mill.
  • Perform equipment inspections throughout.
  • Perform tests and obtain measurements of AC/DC utilities and control circuits.
  • Perform maintenance on distribution switchgear, instrumentation, and controls equipment.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment, hand tools and personal knowledge to determine root cause.
  • Perform necessary maintenance tasks including but not limited to troubleshooting, the repair or replacement of defective and damaged parts, adjustments and calibration procedures, assemble, install, test and execute preventative maintenance tasks on various forms of manufacturing equipment using hand and power tools.
  • Perform additional maintenance duties, as needed.

Experience and Skill Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two-year technical degree in an electrical field of study or minimum two years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing maintenance/engineering environment required. Military service with an electronics, electrical, or systems technicians MOS or rating will also meet the educational or experience requirement.
  • Must have experience and ability to demonstrate ability to read and interpret various electrical or electronic diagrams.
  • Proficient and knowledgeable with hand tools as well as with various electrical test equipment.
  • Must have experience or formal training in the repair of electrical components requiring soldering.
  • Must have experience with AC/DC motor troubleshooting.
  • Must have experience with the repair or troubleshooting of variable speed drives.
  • Must possess ability to set common parameters of variable frequency drives to meet various application needs. Manual drive tuning experience is preferred.
  • Must have experience or formal education and lab training on PLCs, or the ability to navigate block logic, ladder logic, or other digital logic interfaces. MRO system in particular SAP system experience preferred.
  • Must have experience or be able to demonstrate understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic concepts, as well as troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
  • Must have Electrical relay control maintenance and repair proficiency. This includes conventional relay control, safety circuits, power contactors, DC controls and DC contactors for cranes.
  • Must have thorough understanding of safe work practices and NFPA 70E requirements.
  • Must have knowledge of the melting, casting and rolling process of steel and the related equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 12 hours; frequent walking or climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Push and pull up to 90 lbs. and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work with exposure to inside and outside temperatures, loud noise, heights, and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work a 12 hour shift, which include overtime, weekends and some holidays
Education Requirements
