Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to join the CMC Steel Texas Maintenance Department team to provide critical support to day to day plant operations. Steel Texas is one of CMC’s eleven steel mills that have a combined annual capacity of almost eight million tons. By producing steel from recycled metal in electric arc furnaces, we consume far fewer natural resources than blast furnace steelmakers. Using recycled metal allows us to lower CO2 emissions by 58%. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • • Possess specific fundamental knowledge of bearings, power transmission equipment, hydraulics/pneumatics, lubrication, welding principles, rigging, overhead cranes, gearboxes, and mobile equipment operation.
    • Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts using rulers, calipers, and other measuring instruments.
    • Perform alignments on motors/gearboxes using straightedge and indicators.
    • Determine grades and sizes of bolts, pipes, tubing, cables, and wires.
    • Monitor and inspect equipment for defects. Properly remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, overhead cranes, hand, and power tools.
    • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control measurements by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
    • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
    • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment. Show a safety-first mindset; recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.
    • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.



Experience and Skill Requirements
  • • One year field experience in either operations and or manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
    • One year of experience with welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment maintenance preferred but not required.
    • Ability to utilize precision measurement instruments.
    • Experience in various welding processes and oxy-fuel cutting for fabrication & repair.
    • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
    • Experience in bearing installation, care and lubrication.
    • Ability to use sound and solid judgement in high pressure situations. This includes troubleshooting downed equipment and communicating with production and fellow maintenance personnel.
    • Must be able to handle wide range of physical activity which includes pulling, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, and kneeling.
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be able to push and pull up to 90 lbs.
    • Must be able to work in all-weather conditions which include extreme heat and cold.
    • Must be able to work rotating shift which includes nights, weekends, and holidays with overtime built into the schedule.
Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
