Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to support the Maintenance department. They will be responsible for maintaining mechanical equipment and systems to provide dependable support to plant operations in an accurate and efficient manner while observing CMC's Safety Policies and Procedures.

This position works an 8 hour shift Monday thru Friday; which may include some overtime with up to eight (8) hours on Saturday.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on engines, hydraulic systems and stationary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions on equipment and repairs.
  • Operate mobile equipment loaders, forklifts, trucks, material handlers and other various equipment in the plant.
  • Use computers to order parts and update comments on work orders and task.
  • Operate fuel service truck for wet hosing mobile equipment within the plant.
  • Ensure all jobs are completed in a proficient and safe manner.
  • Shows a safety first mindset; recommends improvements to make the workplace safer for self and others.
  • Willing to learn; enjoys tackling new challenges.
  • Is organized and shows attention to detail, with a "get it right the first time" mindset.\
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.

  • Ability to stand for duration of shift, up to 8 hours; frequent physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs or reaching to work with equipment throughout the entire shift.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 -50 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 50 to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work with exposure to extremes in weather temperatures, chemicals, dust, mist, uneven surfaces, loud noises and elevated work areas. 


Experience and Skill Requirements
  • 2 years experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, engines, mobile equipment and vehicles.
  • 2 years experience with various welding processes and oxy-fuel cutting for fabrication and repair.
  • Experience utilizing bearing installations, care and lubrication.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, rebuild and repair gearboxes, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, overhead cranes, shear clutch and brake systems.
  • Ability to perform alignments on motors, gearboxes, while using a straight edge and indicators.
  • Ability to determine grades and sizes of bolts, pipes, tubing, cables and wires.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Must be able to perform minor repairs and routine tasks efficiently, correctly and safely.
  • Must comply with all plant specific rules, procedures and duties.
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
