Position Overview

CMC is currently seeking a Project Manager, Construction to assume operational responsibility for large commercial construction projects, such as highways, bridges, parking structures, high rise buildings, stadiums, etc. These projects will achieve financial results that meet or improve upon budget constraints, while meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Reporting directly to the Area Operations Manager, the Project Manager will manage major projects that require challenges in complexity, technical knowledge and customer demands; and offer leadership to the project staff. The Project Manager will spend the majority of his/her time on site. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is fiscally minded, enjoys managing multiple projects to successful completion, problem solving and interfacing with clients and colleagues across the organization.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Manage an average of 10 large projects at a time
  • Review project proposal/plan to determine time frame, funding margins, and procedures
  • Responsible for direction, completion and financial outcome of construction projects from initial budget through project closeout, managing costs and maximizing profitability
  • Resolve daily issues that may arise to ensure a timely, safe, and profitable project
  • Act as a liaison between customer and internal departments including sales, detailing, operations, superintendents, shop, etc.
  • Prepare project reports for management and customers
  • Negotiate pricing as needed
  • Provide creative solutions to solve problems, ensuring project is completed efficiently and effectively
  • Prepare and collect change orders and ensure work is delegated appropriately
  • Travel safely to and from project sites


Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with large construction projects
  • Rebar and/or concrete experience highly preferred
  • General contracting and project management experience preferred
  • Ability to read and understand contract documents and drawings
  • Solid understanding of project costs/cost control with strong financial and business acumen
  • Strong client facing and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to effectively delegate tasks and influence others
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Skilled in scheduling, planning, organizing and prioritizing work
  • Creative thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office products
  • Good time management skills with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to carry and/or lift up to 30 lbs. and climb stairs when necessary
Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in one of the following area: Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration and/or minimum 5 years in a related/similar position within the construction industry.
