Safety Area Coordinator (5383)

Position Overview

Commercial Metals Company is currently seeking a Safety Area Coordinator for Southern California Field Operations to monitor, advise, organize, assist, and administer professional safety support, under limited supervision, to Field Operation. Ensure safety programs are compliant (Injury Illness Prevention, Hazard Identification, Hazard Control and Correction, Cal-OSHA, CMC safety regulations, policies and procedures.) Conduct compliance training.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Support, advise, and assist Operations at multiple locations with the following:
• Monitor, organize and administer safety compliance documentation.
• Participate in pre-job meetings and establish means and methods to meet job specific safety requirements and training.
• Prepare Job Specific Safety Plan's to include all hazards / tasks required to meet project safety guidelines / requirements.
• Participation in quarterly foreman meetings.
• Monitor all job site reports including but not limited to the Daily and 3-in-1, equipment inspection forms, JHA's and pre-task plans.
• Assist in development of lift plans, JHA's and fall protection plans as required.
• Visit job sites approximately 70% of the time - requiring field interaction with the contractor and Ironworkers. Identify areas of risk and hazards.
• Advise Operations on compliance with Cal/Fed OSHA and CMC safety regulations and policies.
• Monitor, organize and administer required training and certification for employees, including, but not limited to all required OSHA compliance training.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets as required by Cal-OSHA / OSHA.
• Responsible for corrective actions to include written safety citations and other measures outlined in the CMC safety regulations.
• Responsible for investigating incidents involving injury, and equipment damage. Must ensure detailed descriptions, corrective actions, and appropriate disciplinary action and follow through take place.
• Motivate employees to follow safety culture through administration of a Proactive Safety Measure program, safety recognition program, and consistent communication of CMC safety standards.
• Completion and filing of all required OSHA and insurance documentation in a timely manner (OSHA 300, OSHA 301 and First Report of Injury).

Experience and Skill Requirements

• Experience with Occupational Safety
• OSHA 30 Construction minimum.
• OSHA 500/510 desired.
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus
• Working knowledge of safety management that includes maintaining working relationships with management, department supervisors, and outside agencies.
• Experience working with health and safety regulatory compliance agencies at the local, state and federal levels.
• Experience performing accident /incident investigations.
• Experience working / managing workers compensation claims desired.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to conduct presentations and training courses.
• Possess great interpersonal skills causing influence and change in the area of safety.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask responsibilities on a daily basis.
• Proficient computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office.

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED designation a plus.
