Steelmaking Process Engineer Intern (5860)

Position Overview

Commercial Metals is currently seeking a Steelmaking Process Engineer Intern for the Rolling Mill for Summer 2020.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Cross train through the department to learn hands on skills related to industrial/engineering technology degree plans
  • Provide assistance in the areas assigned to produce tangible and measurable results on specific projects/assignments
  • Work activities regularly require interdepartmental-Quality Assurance, Rolling Mill, Maintenance and Reliability-Teamwork, participation and communication
  • Report to and be mentored by respective Area Managers and supported by Process Engineers and Technical Assistants
  • Maintain CMC quality standards, utilizing all necessary safety and plant equipment, and production tools
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Must possess strong interest in Industrial/Engineering Technologies and be enrolled in this type of degree plan (Junior/Senior level preferred)
  • Must currently be an actively enrolled student in an accredited university (Junior or Senior)
  • Knowledge of processes in Microsoft windows, engineering software such as Auto CAD and Solid Works
  • Ability to understand and apply ISO work instructions and standard operating practices and procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, highly motivated, and self-starter
  • Use good decision making and problem solving skills to understand and meet customer expectations
  • Able to work in a team environment 
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to include 40-hour work weeks during summer (June-August)
  • Able to follow safety regulations and participate in CMC safety programs
  • Work in varying temperature and weather conditions
  • Understanding of Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement processes
  • Previous internship experiences with CMC or other companies preferred
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must currently be an actively enrolled student in an accredited university (Junior or Senior)
