Position Overview

The purpose of this position is to support supervision in making sure the daily production objectives are being followed in a safe and effective manner, through directly supervising crews of production operator employees, upon instruction of the Crew Supervisor and in his/her absence.
The role provides secondary crew leadership with the supervisor guiding step-up development in a daily mentoring exercise. This role is to maintain accuracy of company services that are provided, the level of performance of the entire crew, the ability of the crew to follow through with tasks, and the level of completion of these tasks for those days that the crew supervisor may not be present. Step-up supervisors assist the crew supervisors with communicating and responding to the needs of the crew employees and management in order to gain effective results for company profitability.
The step-up supervisor should expect to function as the acting supervisor up to 30% of the scheduled shifts to cover while the supervisor is out for vacations, on weekends, at training, and at meetings.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Act on behalf of the supervisor in relation to production activities of crew to ensure that work is being done safely and as scheduled
• Engage in supporting/leading daily work directions as coordinated by the supervisor
• Perform production activities with crew as a production operator. This will be a large portion of this positions annual review requirements.
• Act as a communicator for the supervisor and the crew
• Follow instructions of the supervisor to lead the crew in various aspects of the production process, such as safety, bundle stacking, paperwork, furnace operations, etc.
• Provide assistance with production paperwork in business process system
• Assign employees according to supervisor direction to maximize production

Experience and Skill Requirements

Competency in this role requires experience and understanding of the industrial environment, specifically in heat treating and converting high quality steel for the purpose of creating a strength-to-weight ratio that meets the standards of our customers. In addition, entry level leadership qualities are necessary to learn to supervise crews effectively and within the safety requirements of OSHA standards and the CMC policy. This position will be expected to participate in CMC and outside supervisor/leadership training. The position is also expected to attend any additional classes or seminars that the company determines critical to development. Additional education encouraged. The ability to build relationships as a leader and as a team member to management is essential. Excellent communication skills, in both written and verbal form are necessary to be successful in this role. The ability to perform basic computer functions through Microsoft Office Suite is also a requirement. Behaviors of this role revolve around high integrity for the division and at the plant level, and should exemplify a positive attitude to the crew and his/ her coworkers. Leadership skills are needed along with the desire to continuously improve in all areas related to being an effective leader and communicator to management staff. 

Education Requirements

• Vocational Degree Preferred
