Position Overview

The individual is responsible for the safe performance of the ladle slidegate operations, tundish slidegate operations, use of hand torches, oxygen lances, monitoring caster strands and lifting of supplies. This individual will ensure that all caster equipment if functional and collaborate with maintenance personnel for problem analysis and resolution. The individual is expected to participate in caster projects and provide input as requested. The individual will be expected to have the ability to manage upset conditions to maintain the safest possible working environment, working alone at times.

The employee is responsible for his/ her safety and housekeeping throughout the shop.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Wear required PPE which will include, but not limited to: FR clothing, silver jacket, respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, face shield, leather gloves, metatarsal boots and additional PPE as required
  • Attend meetings when required
  • Visually inspect tundishes, molds, hydraulic cylinders/connections, walkways, spray chamber equipment, gas/oxygen lines, equipment and oscillators
  • Perform minor/routine maintenance or repairs as needed to equipment without the assistance of maintenance personnel
  • Assist maintenance personnel when requested/needed
  • Suggest improvements in work methods/procedures by communicating ideas with shift manager and/or caster leadman
  • Safely perform all duties and identify unsafe conditions and/or acts and perform safety checks
  • Perform housekeeping regularly and maintain a safe working environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Experience and Skill Requirements
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Basic math skills required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. required
  • Ability to work at heights required
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail required
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift and some holidays
  • Ability to work in extreme heat
  • Ability to learn quickly and multi-task
Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
